Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) is a technology that relies on a physical optics phenomenon. The surface of the chip is connected to a microchannel system by which the flow rate of the buffer and the sample flow through the surface of the dielectric medium are precisely controlled. Therefore, the entire process of the sample (analytes) and ligand interaction is recorded in real-time. Information on the affinity, kinetics, selectivity, concentration, and thermodynamics of the ligand molecule binding to the sample can be determined from the experimentally obtained interaction profiles.
